This is a guide to some of the most useful sources of information on nonprofit organizations and the nonprofit sector. All of the print items listed are at the Kennedy School Library. FirstGov for Nonprofits
" ... a central starting point to help nonprofit organizations access online Federal information and services."

Grants.gov
This site allows organizations to electronically find and apply for competitive grant opportunities from all Federal grant-making agencies.

INC: Internet Nonprofit Center
Developed by The Evergreen State Society of Seattle, this site provides "information for and about nonprofit organizations" in the United States.  Their substantial FAQ section answers many questions about the operation of nonprofit organizations.

Internet Resources for Nonprofits - Utica Public Library 
"Materials on management and governance, fund raising and grants, topical publications, program evaluation, donor prospect research, public policy issues, government, and much more."

The Literature of the Nonprofit Sector - The Foundation Center 
An annual bibliography with abstracts of current literature (i.e. books, journal articles, dissertations, etc.) in the areas of philanthropy and the nonprofit sector.

Mission Statements: A Guide to the Corporate and Nonprofit Sectors. John W. Graham and Wendy C. Havlick. (Ref AS30.G69)  Includes the mission statements of over 600 U.S. and Canadian organizations, many of which are nonprofits. View HOLLIS record

Rockefeller Foundation  
Founded in 1913, the Rockefeller Foundation is one of the largest private philanthropic entities in the United States.

SPIN (Sponsored Programs Information Network)
Lists grants available from government and nonprofit organizations. International in scope, the database provides a keyword search option.

Journals

ABI/Inform (Harvard ID & PIN required)
An excellent database to search for journal articles about the management of nonprofit organizations. It provides citations, abstracts and full text of over 500 of the 1,000 academic management, marketing, and general business journals.

Factiva.com  (Harvard ID & PIN required)
Factiva , an archive of over 8,000 electronic publications, includes the full-text of newspapers, magazines, trade journals, newswires,  television and radio transcripts.  Factiva also provides business information, including company financial profiles and reports and SEC filings.

An excellent database to search for journal articles about nonprofit organizations. PAIS indexes over 1600 public policy journals and is international in scope.

Philanthropy News Network Online
A daily online journal which covers the nonprofit sector.  Contains many useful links including one for searching nonprofit job opportunities.

The Public Services Career Center  Kennedy School of Government.
The KSG Career Center's web site provides links to career related web resources, many of which provide information about nonprofit organizations. 

Associated Grantmakers of Massachusetts
AGM's home page provides information concerning their services. Services include: forums for nonprofits on topical issues in philanthropy, proposal writing workshops, professional development workshops for staff of nonprofits, etc.
